Synopsis

The film showcases Mia Meijer (Christa Taylor Brown) who looks upon her grandmother Ann (Marcia Bennett) with anticipation to win the town’s Christmas market Dutch bake-off with her recipe of `kerststol’ which is a holiday bread from Holland. The developers’ representative unfortunately happens to be Brady Schaltz (Chad Michael Murray), Mia’s ex who broke her heart during high school.

Mia, on the other hand, is not one to let it go. Not only does she possess feelings for Brady, she also rallies the people of the community to find a way and save their landmark. As it turns out, the revival of the torched romance provides smiles to the hate to see what these people are going through to save a historical landmark

Although official ratings are not available yet, the reactions have been very positive so far, especially among viewers who are interested in romantic narratives during the Christmas season.

Personal insights

A narrative of mirroring of the hearts, opposition of McDonaldism in Holland appropriately interwoven with community spirit, and relevant nostalgia of the old wins are good enough to qualify this movie as one such. Dutch elements like the Kerststol and emphasis on patriotism provide a refreshing touch. The dynamics between Christa Taylor Brown and Chad Michael Murray are intriguing, creating tension in a good way that is necessary to evoke the emotions that the story would want you to feel.

Cultural Integrity

Stories such as Christmas on Windmill Way recount narratives which have common threads which define every human being; the respect of one’s origins, tenaciousness against obstacles, and the love for making new all these fits beautifully together. But it does add on to the traditions of Dutch in America, which are quite uncommon in a Christmas genre movie. Picturesquely set in North Bay, Ontario the locations make for perfect holiday warmth and charm
